Amazon CEO Andy Jassey Hints At Retail Giant’s Possible NFT Adoption
Milestone Date: April 13, 2022
Amazon is one of the few tech giants that hasn’t made any moves in the Web3 space. However, CEO Andy Jassey dropped a “hint” that Amazon might do something with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the future. Perhaps the e-commerce giant would sell them or drop them to customers. Since Amazon was first founded, its reliance on emergent technologies has been a key driver in making it the world's largest and most disruptive retailer.
So, hearing it hint at potential Web3 and NFT initiatives sounds like it could be a new page from the same playbook and a powerful statement to other enterprises around the world about the potential business benefits of blockchain.
During a Squawkbox interview, Jassey stated, “I expect that NFTs will continue to grow very significantly. We’re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business, but I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger and — it’s possible down the road [that Amazon ingrates crypto payments].”
