Amazon’s NFT Marketplace Launch Has Been Delayed
Milestone Date: April 24, 2023
The launch of Amazon’s highly anticipated NFT marketplace has been delayed. The new launch date is expected to be May 15. An internal source shared that the delay is due to technical and economic challenges.
According to reports, Amazon is planning for its digital marketplace to include 80 NFT collections, including popular brands like Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Apes, World of Women, Beeple, and Pudgy Penguins. Users will be able to claim perks and purchase merchandise from supported collections. What’s interesting to note is a key difference between Amazon’s planned digital marketplace for NFTs versus other NFT marketplaces; whereas other NFT marketplaces typically require payments with cryptocurrency, Amazon’s marketplace strikes a so-called Web2.5 balance by only accepting fiat. Even so, given how NFTs require blockchain infrastructure, the move is still a big step towards Web3 for the world’s biggest e-commerce platform.
