Coming Soon: Secretive Amazon Blockchain Initiative Could Be An NFT Marketplace

Amazon has been rumored to be launching something NFT-related on April 24 and that “something” appears to be an NFT marketplace of some sort. The “Amazon Digital Marketplace” will only be accessible to customers in the United States and will slowly roll out to users around the world.

The rollout appears to be happening. On a Friday in March, Nikhilesh De, CoinDesk's managing editor for global policy and regulation, got a surprise in his inbox—an email confirming his Amazon Prime Video subscription renewal had been completed and “your digital token is now in your gallery.” Amazon has not confirmed exactly how NFTs will be used throughout its broader e-commerce ecosystem; however, De’s “proof of purchase” experience hints at where this technology could be used in the platform.

De stated that he was not able to access the digital token, and the links in the email sent to him were broken. The email sent to him was from an official Amazon email address.

Seeing an enterprise like Amazon leverage NFTs for e-commerce transactions could set a standard across the industry and encourage many more companies to follow.
