Fast Food Restaurant Chipotle Accepts Cryptocurrency Payments

Milestone Date: June 1, 2022

Payments

Chipotle, the Mexican-style fast-food restaurant, is no stranger to innovation. From out-of-the-box social media strategies and fun internet games to win a side of queso, they are fantastic at capturing attention. To add to this list, Chipotle will now accept cryptocurrency payments through Flexa, a digital payments platform.

Flexa is able to provide companies with the ability to support fraud-proof cryptocurrency transactions, and the platform supports 99 cryptos — including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and Dogecoin. Chipotle isn’t the first restaurant to accept cryptocurrency payments. Subway was one of the first fast-food restaurants to accept Bitcoin in 2013! Pizza Hut in Venezuela started accepting crypto in 2020. And Starbucks allows its rewards members to turn cryptocurrency into cash balances within its Starbucks App.

Restaurants experimenting with cryptocurrency payments have the opportunity to enhance the customer experience while providing more ways to pay for your food. With other fast-food restaurants like Carl’s Jr. and Taco Bell filing for brand trademarks for NFTs, we could see more Web3 innovation in this space.
