Lexus Offers Hoverboard NFT To Prize Challenge Winner

Milestone Date: April 23, 2023

Customer Engagement

To celebrate the new Lexus RX, Lexus launched the “Stay Ahead” campaign that includes a spy-themed game where players can give it their all to unlock a briefcase and win prizes, including an exclusive Lexus Hoverboard NFT.

The Stay Ahead game places the player in a short film that pauses at certain points to give the player 10 seconds to decide between two options. If the correct option is selected, the player advances to the next stage of the game. If the wrong option is selected, the game is over. Players who successfully navigate the game and unlock the briefcase at the end are then entered into a lottery for a chance to win the NFT prize.

The Lexus Hoverboard was chosen as the NFT because it reflected technical innovation that has inspired Lexus as a whole. And for those who may not know, the hoverboard was a real creation. According to an announcement shared by Lexus:

“Created in 2015, the fully functioning machine used super-conductivity and magnetic levitation science to carry a rider – champion skateboarder Ross McGouran – the length of a purpose-built track. In the all-new RX luxury SUV, the same pioneering spirit can be seen in Lexus’ first turbocharged performance hybrid electric system – the powertrain used for the RX 500h F SPORT that has a central role in the ‘Stay Ahead’ film. This new electrification technology is also the first Lexus hybrid to work with an automatic transmission, delivering sharper, responsive performance and a higher level of driver rewards.”

Creating and gifting NFTs as prizes is more evidence of the sort of blockchain experiments that global enterprises are testing to see what works and what doesn’t. In the case of Lexus, the experiment comes after the luxury vehicle maker gave NFTs to Lexus Performance Driving School (LPDS) participants. Other auto giants are also making moves with NFTs. Earlier this year, Lexus’ parent Toyota launched NFTs as part of a customer engagement initiative and Porsche gave NFTs another try.
