Porsche Announces First NFT Collection
Milestone Date: November 29, 2022
Luxury automaker Porsche announced it will launch its first NFT collection in January 2023. The collection will feature 7,500 NFTs that are based on the iconic Porsche 911.
Porsche has brought on Patrick Vogel, a 3D artist based in Hamburg, to craft the design of the Porsche 911 NFTs. This will be an interactive experience, as buyers can influence the design of their NFTs by choosing either the Performance, Heritage or Lifestyle routes. Each route will determine a unique design and character of the NFT, which will be limited to three per person. Owners will also have exclusive access to experiences in the virtual and real world, including participating directly in Porsche’s Web3 journey and interacting with the brand. This sort of exclusivity – where certain experiences, products, or services are made available to holders of certain fungible or non-fungible tokens – is called “token-gating.”
“This project is an additional element of our digitalization strategy. We’ve made our commitment for the long haul and our Web3 team has the autonomy to develop innovations in this dimension as well. Innovation management at Porsche also sees potential in the purchasing experience, the metaverse, and the supply chain. Vehicle and sustainability issues are also being considered,” said Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT at Porsche.
