Because of the complexities in the vanilla supply chain, Estée Lauder brand Aveda uses blockchain technology to trace the responsible and sustainable sourcing of materials for the use of vanilla in its products.
This project involves tracing and verifying every step in the supply chain from 450 vanilla farmers to Aveda’s manufacturing facility, using mobile phones and QR code IDs to capture data and record it on a blockchain.
The ultimate goal is to improve transparency and raise sourcing standards.
