Nissan Files For Web3-related Trademarks In The United States
Milestone Date: March 13, 2023
Japanese auto giant Nissan is expanding its Web3 intentions in the United States after filing four Web3 trademarks for its Infiniti, Nismo, and Nissan brands. The filing hints at Nissan’s plans to create virtual goods like clothes, cars, trading cards, headgear, and tickets, as well as an NFT marketplace for minting and trading, and metaverse advertising services.
Nissan has already been experimenting with leveraging the metaverse for auto sales in Japan. Its three-month “Nissan Hype Lab” experiment, which will run through June 30, 2023, includes being able to shop for and virtually test drive Nissan cars. Customers can also create their own avatars and interact with virtual sales staff during specific hours. Nissan has already filed trademarks for its popular models like the Skyline, Z, and GTR.
Seeing a major international auto enterprise like Nissan invest in Web3 innovation and pursue trademarks signals there is considerable interest in the automotive industry to pursue digital transformation.
