The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), an independent regulatory agency, was created by authorization from the Congressional Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The SEC was endowed with a mission with three goals: protect investors, facilitate the formation of capital, and to maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets.
